History

In 1924 Los Angeles developers purchased several 100 acres and sub-divided them into 10 acre farms.  In 1934 lots were sold and homes were built and they called the area "Rancho Mirage."  Hollywood celebrities such as Bob Home, Randolph Scott, Philterris, Desi Arnez, and Ralph Isiner invested in the first 18 hole golf course in the Coachella Valley, Thunderbird Country Club opening up in 1951.  Rancho Mirage was the home to the late president Gerald Ford. Population 18,537.

Rancho Mirage hosts Eisenhower Hospital recognized as a best hospital for 2022-2023 by US News & World Report.  This community also has a top notch casino, Agua Caliente Resort Casino and Spa.  Another highlight is a Children's Discovery Museum with hands on exhibits to stimulate your child's imagination.  A must see is Sunnylands Center & Gardens.  They offer tours of this 200 acre midcentury modern estate and it is used as a high-level retreat center, welcoming national and international leaders for high-level retreats and meetings that address serious issues facing the nation and world. The former winter home of Ambassador Walter and Leanore Annenberg.
