Population 51,707, Located in Riverside County, California Palm Desert is approximately 122 miles east of Los Angeles. Originally farmed by the Cahuilla Indian farmers the San Cayetano tribe were the first residents of the area. In the 1920s when date palms were planted in the area, the name of the city was changed from Old MacDonald Ranch to Palm Village. The area began to be developed in the 1930s when a few homes were built and lots sold. In 1951 the city changed its name to Palm Desert.
With more than 30 golf courses, hiking trails, resorts, The Living Desert Zoo, and luxury shopping on El Paseo this city has it all. Great restaurants with all types of food and live entertainment. You cannot but feel relaxed and happy in this unique environment. With great views of the mountains and sunsets some call Palm Desert is paradise.
As you walk the streets of Palm Desert you will see public art installed along the streets and walkways. There are numerous art galleries located on El Paseo and other shopping districts located within the city. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, The College of the desert, the McCullen Theatre, numerous public golf courses, farmers markets and the street fairs will keep residents and visitors busy. Hikers, golfers, pickleball players and bikers will delight in the many outdoor sports that are available.
